Jackson Free Clinic
The Jackson Free Clinic, lovingly known as just JFC, is a not-for-profit, student-run clinic in the heart of Jackson which provides 100% free medical, dental, and psychiatric care to the city’s most vulnerable citizens. Started in the early 2000s, JFC has grown to become a vital part of the health care system in Jackson. To many, there is no greater use of our ability as medical providers than to provide high-quality care to those who need it most.
The partnership between the Department of Medicine and JFC is strong. Internal Medicine residents are intimately intertwined with the mission and goal of JFC. With primary care appointments provided each Saturday, our medical residents serve as the supervising physician to the medical student-led teams. Permanently licensed residents, fellows or faculty serve as the attending-in-charge. Every medicine resident serves one Saturday shift per year, although many choose to volunteer much more frequently.
